Elka Sushi

Japanese$

The whole fish hanging in the window tells you this is not your average high-street sushi joint. Sit on a plush chair at a marble table for signature maki rolls like the yuzu-miso king salmon, and kaisendon, a rice bowl lavishly topped with fish. Drinks are from a Japanese vending machine, and there’s takeaway, too.

The go-to order, though, is Elka’s OG chirashi bowl, scattered with cubes of dry-aged Ora King salmon, bluefin tuna, hamachi and snapper create an arresting visual and textural rhythm. Its point of difference is the addition of quick-poached St Helens oysters and braised abalone, alongside salmon roe, yellow daikon and cucumber over sushi rice.

Led by chef-owner Elisha Tran, with menu consultation from Brendan Liew (Warabi), the mood is takeaway-focused and neighbourhood-driven.
