Your first port of call in Bangalow for batch brew and polenta cake.

Woods cafe in Bangalow. Natalie Grono

A block back from Bangalow’s main street, pint-sized arts precinct The Lumber Yard backs a punch. Come mid-morning or at lunchtime and Woods Cafe is the first port of call for chilled batch brew sweetened with maple and berry and polenta cake served by the slice. The vibe is somewhere between log cabin and weatherboard shack with plenty of places to perch outside, which fill up quickly on market day.

For breakfast? Smoothies, elixirs and avo toast with macadamia chilli crunch. For lunch? Try Turkish eggs with tahini-whipped yoghurt or something from the specials board, which might list seafood chowder in the winter, or a hearty patty melt loaded with Northern Rivers pork and fennel sausage.

Can’t nab a table? Drop into Flo Records and peruse the tightly curated vinyl selection while you wait.
