For anyone actually interested in Super Rugby, the Waratahs v Moana Pasifika game has been paused due to the risk of lightning from the storm that’s been sweeping across Sydney.
Coincidentally (or maybe not) Harry and Meghan have now also left Allianz Stadium.
So, for your enjoyment, here are a few more photos of the royal couple enjoying the game before the players left the field (the Swans-Giants game is also off for the moment).
Before departing Allianz Stadium, Harry and Meghan were pictured in an official capacity with Rugby Australia CEO Phil Waugh and their souvenir Wallabies jerseys.
Harry is a nailed-on England fan (and a patron of English rugby until he left the Firm). What are the odds of these green and gold jerseys never seeing the light of day again?
And time, too, for photos with some of the guests in the Rugby Australia suite at Allianz Stadium.
Harry has taken a few seconds to get a proper whiff of Australia – courtesy of his new RM Williams boots. The boot maker is a Rugby Australia sponsor.
A special presentation was held for Harry and Meghan during half-time at the Waratahs-Moana Pasifika match.
In the Rugby Australia suite, RA CEO Phil Waugh gave Harry and Meghan Wallabies jerseys with their names on the backs, as well as little jerseys and shirts for their children, Archie and Lilibet.
Waugh also gave the couple brown Wallabies-branded RM Williams boots.
Meghan said “that’s so sweet” when Waugh gave them the jerseys for the kids. And she excitedly remarked”there’s a pair for me too” when Waugh gave her her boots. Waugh was rewarded with a big hug.
Meghan started her unofficial royal visit to Australia with a familiar designer and finished with a familiar silhouette.
On day one, she wore a dress by Karen Gee to visit the Royal Melbourne Children’s Hospital, the same designer who dressed the duchess for her first official royal appearance in Australia in 2018.
For her final appearance at this rugby in Sydney tonight, Meghan finished wrapped in a trench coat, worn over a black turtleneck. It would be a full-circle moment if the coat was the same one she wore over Karen Gee’s dress in 2018, by Paris-based, Melbourne-born designer Martin Grant. Unfortunately, unlike Grant’s creation, this coat has cuff straps and is closer in style to a traditional Burberry piece.
Meghan watched the game seated between Prince Harry and her close friend, Canadian Soho House executive Markus Anderson. It has been reported that Anderson, who is working on establishing a Soho House in Sydney, was instrumental in organising private getaways for Meghan and Harry early in their relationship. Between her husband, close friend and trench coat, Meghan looked sufficiently cosy
More shots now of the royal couple at Allianz Stadium for the Waratahs game tonight.
Meghan continued her Scanlan Theodore streak for her appearance at the Her Best Life retreat in Coogee.
Having carried a $950 suede handbag from the Melbourne-based label for her yacht trip on Sydney Harbour this afternoon, Meghan changed into an outfit that appears to be the brand’s $350 cashmere tie sleeveless tank and $400 Italian trousers.
Meghan posed alongside Her Best Life podcast host and event organiser Gemma O’Neill, who wore a Rebecca Vallance “Evolet” puff sleeve midi dress, in an image posted to the @herbestlifepod Instagram account.
Our man on the ground, Neil Breen, is sitting a few rows back from the royal couple in Allianz Stadium.
Neil reliably informs us that they held hands throughout the first half of the Waratahs v Moana Pasifika match.
And just to prove it, he snapped this cute shot of the pair.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived at the Waratahs v Moana Pasifika match as scheduled, right on kick-off.
They were escorted to the Rugby Australia Suite at Allianz Stadium from the underground car park by Australian rugby royalty – Wallabies World Cup-winning captain John Eales, former Wallabies legend and RA CEO Phil Waugh, current star Wallaby Joseph-Aukuso Sua’aili’i and former governor-general Peter Cosgrove, who at one time served as the patron of Rugby Australia.
After making small talk in the room, they took their seats next to Waugh. Seated nearby were Sir Peter and Eales. Also seen chatting to Harry was chair of Venues NSW David Gallop.
The duke was invited to the match by Waugh. The pair met when Harry was in Australia supporting England in their successful 2003 World Cup campaign, while Waugh played for the Wallabies team beaten in the final.
