Broncos winger Josiah Karapani has been hit with a fine and month-long nightlife precinct ban over an early morning incident in Brisbane following his team’s Friday night win over the Dolphins.

Queensland police said in a statement on Saturday afternoon that officers issued the public nuisance fine and ban to a 24-year-old Gold Coast man at 3.30am in Fortitude Valley’s Ann Street.

The action, including a fine understood to be worth about $1000 and a one-month banning notice for the Valley Safe Night Precinct, followed what police described only as a “disturbance”.

The team issued a statement on Saturday confirming Karapani was the 24-year-old in question. “The NRL Integrity Unit has been informed,” the team said.

On Friday night, the Broncos – and Karapani – saw off the Dolphins in the Battle of Brisbane at Suncorp Stadium in a 26-12 round-four win.
