Yes, folks - this match has been abandoned. And that means that Australia will retain the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy; they lead 1-0 after victory in game one and now can’t be beaten.
What a bummer of an evening.
Apparently if we don’t resume play within 30 minutes, this match will be abandoned. That looks a live possibility to me.
It is raining again. But they are still playing. Wait... what is going on? It looks like the covers are coming back on... oh dear. And the “big cover”, too, which is definitely not good news. Play has stopped, let’s see what happens from here.

Jacob Duffy will bowl the second over. He’s unlucky to give up four off Head’s edge with his first ball. And before he has a chance to send down his second, there’s a slight delay because some light towards have gone out. Now they’re back. Apparently that’s the advantage of LED lightning. And... wicket! Duffy gets Head out! A poor decision by Head to play at that and he slices it to backward point, where he is caught by Devon Conway.
That brings Matthew Short to the crease. He gets a single away off his first ball face and then WHACK - Marsh smashes Duffy for six down the ground! Two more runs follow for Australia to round out the over.
Australia 1-15 after two overs
Alright. Finally. Matt Henry has the ball for New Zealand to deliver the first of nine overs for this innings. He bowls to Mitchell Marsh... whoosh, the first one flies past the edge. Lovely stuff. That moved. Number two is a short one that clocks him in the helmet grill, via the arm, as he attempts to pull. Marsh gets off the mark with ball number four, a mistimed slog that shoots away for a single to mid-off. Head adds another single and that’s pretty much it.

We’re just moments away from some action. Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head, the Australian openers, are walking out there now.
