That’s all we have for you tonight

Thanks so much for joining us tonight for a long night of footy.

We will be back tomorrow afternoon as Scott Pendlebury breaks the AFL games record, along with more action from Geelong and Adelaide.

Please have a lovely evening, and bye for now.

Perfect 10 for Dockers as they set a new record by downing Saints

By

Fremantle have soared to a club record 10th consecutive win after coming from behind to post a 30-point victory over a plucky St Kilda in front of 53,707 fans at Optus Stadium.

The Saints, led by former Dockers grand final coach Ross Lyon in his second stint with St Kilda, threatened to be party poopers after hitting the lead early in the last quarter of Friday night’s match when Darcy Wilson nailed a goal on the run.

But, just like they have done so many times this season, Fremantle lifted when it mattered most, drawing on their “Wharfie Time” spirit to pile on the next six goals and secure the 16.8 (104) to 11.8 (74) win.

Josh Treacy kick-started the late charge with a mark low to the ground and a clutch set shot.

Visions of Buckley as Parish wins medal

By

Scott finished his presser by defending Richmond fans for booing medal-winner Darcy Parish, comparing his win to Nathan Buckley winning the Norm Smith Medal when Scott’s Lions beat Buckley’s Collingwood in the grand final.

“When you win, you expect your player to win the medal don’t you?” Scott said with a smile.

“I had visions of Nathan Buckley winning the medal in a game I played in. I can remember him taking a [Nom Smith] medal off his neck after losing a grand final.

“I thought Darcy played well. I’m not a big one for individual medals anyway and 78,000 for a game between Richmond, who were a super power with three premierships in the last 10 years and us who I would describe as a dormant super power.

“At the moment, we don’t look like one but we will keep fighting and I know our supporters will keep on supporting us.”

‘He’s terrible’: Scott on McGrath

By

Bombers coach Brad Scott offered a graphic description of skipper Andrew McGrath’s jaw injury.

Scott still holds out hope that surgery and a short recovery could see McGrath return soon, but he has to wait and see what scans show.

“He’s terrible,” Scott said of the state of his skipper.

“When you break your jaw and a tooth comes out in the incident, he’s got a pretty noticeable crack in his jaw that you can see and feel.

“Again, I’m not diagnosing it, but that one is pretty obvious. Sometimes you can put a plate it in it and players can come back pretty quickly, but I’m not sure if that is the case here.”

May heads to hospital

By

Essendon coach Brad Scott cast a solemn figure as he spoke to media following the loss to Richmond, sending the injury-hit Dons to the bottom of the ladder and to the No.1 pick in the upcoming mid-season draft (a player who may go close to heading straight into the selection mix).

“It’s extremely disappointing not to get it done and there are things you think about that are positives, but it’s hard to talk about positives right now with the position we are in,” Scott said.

“We are in a situation that we don’t want to be in, and we need to keep on fighting. I know at the end of the day that no one cares but given the circumstances, the players fought to the end and gave themselves a chance but fell just short.”

Scott said Jye Caldwell played out the match despite being hurt as the medical advice was that he couldn’t make his injury worse, while forward Archer May has been sent to hospital with rib issues after kicking three goals.

Further injury details emerge

The extent of the injury carnage from tonight’s game: Archer May has also gone to hospital. His issue is with his ribs. That’s on top of Tom Lynch being hospitalised with a knock to the larynx, and Andrew McGrath with a broken jaw. Brad Scott had a graphic description of McGrath’s injury, saying a tooth flew out in the blow.

FT: Fremantle 16.8 (104) d St Kilda 11.8 (74)

Fremantle have set a new club record with 10 straight wins and have done so in dominant fashion, going from a slim lead to start the final term, to winning by 30 points.

The Dockers had a lot of winners in the final term. Josh Treacy, Jye Amiss, Murphy Reid and many others stepped up.

As Kayo Sports expert and Australian Football Hall of Fame Legend Jason Dunstall said on the call, the Dockers have a lot of weapons, and it showed.

Saints ruckman Rowan Marshall left the field late with a suspected knee injury, the severity of which is not yet known.

Saints ruckman Rowan Marshall has limped off in the final minute. It wasn’t clear what happened to him – whether he was cramping or injured – but he looked in some discomfort.

Brad Hill has kicked a late goal for the Saints to end their drought.

Will Schofield from Kayo Sports said the doctors were testing Marshall’s knee, including his ACL. No word yet on his injury.

From a dance to a prance

Now “the Prancing Pony”, himself (Patrick Voss) is in on the action.

Voss waited for Michael Frederick to power forward and send a kick in his direction, and Voss then beat Callum Wilkie to the mark.

He went back and booted the goal before pumping his fist in delight.
