The 20-year-old Western Bulldogs forward made a powerful stand on Thursday night, replicating Winmar’s iconic gesture when he lifted his jumper and pointed to his skin.

The remarkable moment at Marvel Stadium came just five days after Ugle-Hagan was racially abused during and after a match at the same venue.
It was almost 30 years to the day since Winmar famously stood up to racial abuse from Collingwood supporters at Victoria Park in April 1993.

‘It wasn’t like any other game’: Wilkie
By
St Kilda defender Callum Wilkie spoke to Channel Seven post game.
The Bombers came out you hard, particularly in the second half you must be part of the boys digging deep to get done?
They came hard and we went back at them so it’s a special night for the football club, we try to prepare like with any other game but deep down we knew it wasn’t just like any other game. It’s good to see all the Saints fans up and about. They haven’t had a lot to cheer for for a lot of years so it’s exciting to get a win for them.

Plenty to cheer about tonight but, as you mentioned, the 150th paying homage to the past, present and future of this footy club, makes it even more special.

FT: St Kilda 14.8 (92) d Essendon 10.8 (68)
By
St Kilda has stormed back to beat Essendon and go to 3-0 to start this season.
They should also end the night on top of the AFL ladder which is a lovely touch on a night where they have celebrated their 150th anniversary as a club.
The crowd was 69,255 fans which is one of the biggest in Saints history during a home and away game.
Mason Wood’s shoulder injury will be a worry for the Saints while Essendon should take a little belief from their ability to fight back to within a few points early in this last term.

What a final term from the Saints.
