WA drivers are getting a $100 top-up. Here’s how to claim it

Michael Philipps

After WA Treasurer Rita Saffioti handed down this year’s state budget on Thursday, one of the big questions on everybody’s lips was how they would spend the $100 “fuel support payment” windfall.

As one of the government’s big announcements, every West Australian driver will receive a $100 as part of more than $1 billion in cost-of-living supports in the 2026-27 state budget.

However, questions remain over how people actually apply to receive their payment – and who is eligible for the support funding.

Well, WAtoday is here to help.

What is the fuel support payment?

The payment is a cost-of-living measure to help Western Australians with fuel costs. It is a one-off payment aimed at helping with fuel costs in the wake of price hikes caused by the ongoing war in the Middle East.

Who is eligible to receive the payment?

The funding is available for anyone with a valid Western Australian driver’s licence.

It is also included for drivers with a learner’s permit, a provisional permit – or P-plates – and those on extraordinary licenses.

This also includes people with a valid motorcycle licence or heavy vehicle licence, although the payment is only available once for each driver.

Can EV drivers receive the payment?

Yes, electric vehicle drivers with a valid licence are still able to claim the one-off payment despite not using petrol or diesel in their vehicles.

What if you have a cancelled or suspended licence?

If you have a cancelled or suspended licence you will not be eligible to receive the payment. It is only for valid WA licences.

Do I have to spend the payment on fuel?

Technically, no. All applicants will receive $100 into their bank account via the ServiceWA app.

When can people start applying for the payment?

Claims can be made from July 1 this year to coincide with the start of the new financial year.
