Five passengers were injured, including two toddlers, after a truck failed to clear a level crossing in Guildford just before 4pm on Wednesday, colliding with an oncoming train.

The incident happened at the Meadow Street crossing, causing a large jolt to approximately 100 passengers on board.

The closure also caused delays on the Airport, Ellenbrook and Fremantle Lines.

One passenger on the train at the time of the collision said he was “flying” 2 to 3 metres in the air after the crash and that people were screaming and fell to the floor.

Main Roads WA said Meadow Street was closed in both directions at Great Eastern Highway.

“There appear to be no life-threatening injuries. Inquiries are ongoing.”

The truck was believed to have been carrying a bobcat. The force of the crash smashed the train’s windscreen and debris was thrown onto nearby vehicles.
