Young girl’s body found in Brisbane River

Police have recovered the body of a seven-year-old girl who drowned while swimming in the Brisbane River on Saturday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to Colleges Crossing Recreation Reserve in Chuwar, Ipswich, shortly after 5pm after the girl failed to resurface.

A large search and rescue operation was launched soon after, with police divers recovering the girl’s body shortly before 10.30pm.

Queensland Ambulance Service representatives said a school-aged boy had also been taken to Ipswich Hospital in a stable condition after being in the water at the same time and place.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
