Townsville mayor at centre of assault allegations at bar
Townsville mayor Nick Dametto, a former state MP, is being investigated over an alleged assault at a bar on Magnetic Island in North Queensland at the weekend.
Police are investigating an altercation between a 42-year-old man and a 28-year-old man at a Nelly Bay Road business on Sunday, June 7.
The incident was reported to police as an assault on Wednesday.
Police did not say whether any physical injuries were inflicted during the altercation between the men, or whether either sought medical treatment.
Dametto was elected Townsville mayor in November, after the resignation of disgraced former mayor Troy Thompson.
A former Katter’s Australian Party MP, Dametto resigned from his state position to run for mayor, comfortably defeating acting mayor Ann-Maree Greaney.
Dametto was contacted for comment.
