Toddler bitten on neck in dog attack
A young girl mauled by a dog in a town south-west of Brisbane has been left with serious neck injuries.
Emergency services were called to a home in Beaudesert shortly after 5pm on Thursday, and the toddler was rushed to Queensland Children’s Hospital in a serious condition.
On Friday, her condition had stabilised, although she was still recovering in hospital.
In Queensland, management of dogs that have attacked people or been listed as regulated – which can occur if a dog is at serious risk of attacking a person – is administered by local councils.
Asked if the dog had been known as dangerous or listed previously, a Scenic Rim Regional Council spokesperson said the council was unable to comment, as the matter was part of an ongoing investigation.
The council was working with police and the Department of Primary Industries to determine how it would handle the dog.
“Council will provide an update when information becomes available,” the spokesperson said.
