Teenager charged after pile-up involving SUV on Kingsford Smith Drive

A 17-year-old has been charged with stealing and driving the luxury SUV involved in a serious crash in inner Brisbane early on Tuesday.

Several people were badly injured and commuters were delayed after the three-vehicle collision on Kingsford Smith Drive near Cooksley Street in Hamilton about 4.30am.

A 2025 Range Rover allegedly stolen from a Beverley Crescent address at Broadbeach on Monday night was involved.

Four teenagers – the youngest 14 and the oldest 17 – were arrested at the scene and taken to hospital under police guard.

Police confirmed on Wednesday a 17-year-old boy had been charged with entering a dwelling, receiving tainted property, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a vehicle and failing to remain at the scene of a crash.

He was refused bail and due to appear at Brisbane Children’s Court that day.

The other three teenagers remained in hospital, overseen by police.

Two men from Toowong in a Mazda SUV that had its front almost sheared off in the incident suffered serious injuries, with one trapped inside the vehicle.

They both remained in hospital on Wednesday morning.
