Bunnings Newstead evacuated following bomb threat
A 12-year-old boy has been charged in relation to threats made to a Bunnings Warehouse in Newstead on Tuesday morning.
Emergency services evacuated shoppers from the inner-Brisbane store and surrounding shops about 8.30am after a bomb threat was made.
Traffic was diverted off Ross Street, from Edmondstone Road to Durong Street, spanning the back end of the building and car park entrance.
A police spokesperson said officers conducted sweeps of the store.
“No suspicious items were located and there is no further information to indicate there is a threat to the public,” the spokesperson said.
A 12-year-old was later charged with one count each of bomb hoax and using a carriage service to menace, harass and/or intimidate.
Queensland Police said the boy was dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.
The store and roads were reopened about 10.30am.
Bunnings regional manager Alysha Hayes said the safety of team members and customers was the store’s top priority.
