Police address the media while investigating the duplex fire at Emerald, where four people died.
A 17-year-old boy Carrara boy was transported to Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition with a stab wound.
Opposition energy spokesperson Dan Tehan said the Liberal Party was focused on its energy policy development, not the machinations of a potential leadership spill against Opposition Leader Sussan Ley, during a doorstop interview in Canberra this morning.
“Everyone is united that we must do something on the emissions reduction side.
“And everyone is united to say that we must get energy abundance back into our system so we can protect all the jobs that are currently at risk,” Tehan said, responding to a question on perception of disunity within the party.
Tehan repeatedly referenced Ley’s election six months ago, but did not answer substantive questions about how the leader’s popularity had changed since her election, or the impact of the party’s crashing primary vote.

Tiny doors, carols and a sound and light show at Queen’s Wharf have been revealed as part of the Christmas in Brisbane program.
Festivities will launch with the lighting of the Christmas tree in King George Square on Friday, November 28, featuring performances by Australian Idol winner Dylan Wright and an all-new fireworks finale.
Family favourites, including the Enchanted Garden, City Hall lights and the Lord Mayor’s Christmas carols will return as part of Brisbane’s celebrations this year.
Families can hunt for enchanting Christmas-themed tiny doors hidden around the city from December 1 to 24, created by artist Mace Robertson, while a magic and circus show will be at the Queen Street Mall stage on several dates in December.
Sofie Formica and Dean Miller have been announced as the new hosts of 4BC Breakfast in 2026, replacing Peter Fegan, who did his last show three weeks ago.
The duo will present the show on the talk radio station, which, like this masthead, is owned by Nine Entertainment, from January 19.
Miller was previously a breakfast host at Triple M, and has appeared on lifestyle TV shows such as Creek to Coast, Queensland Weekender and The Great South East.
There is yet to be an announcement on who will host the Mornings program next year — a seat left vacant by the departure of Bill McDonald in September – or Afternoons, where Formica had been host for the past four years.
