Louis Theroux and the Ultra Zionists, Sunday, August 7

Louis Theroux plunges into the strange world of Israeli settlers in the West Bank. Thankfully, he eschews the po-faced smart-arsery that detracts from some of his work. From lonely hillside encampments tothe densely populated neighbourhoods of East Jerusalem, he meets super-religious Israelis devoted to reclaiming what they see as their God-given homeland from the Palestinians who live in it. It’s an extraordinary, entrenched mindset — and one that, as we see here, has its counterparts on the Palestinian side. Theroux doesn’t offer a lot in the way of historical context but he does give us a compelling street-level glimpse into an intractable conflict.
